There are two types of Linkbuilding that we care about, the first is the Internal Link Building, and the second is the Backlinks Building.
This Tutorial will explain in details, how to best optimize your pages, without over-optimizing, or submitting hundreds of links to directories.
Internal links are very important in the beginning. You would want to make sure that all your pages are accessible, and that the search engines know about your pages. One way to do this is by submitting a sitemap.
One of the benefits from having a sitemap, is that search engines know where to find your pages, they don't have to crawl your intire site. It doesn't guarantee that your pages will be included in their index, but helps the search engines in many different ways.
You can submit a sitemap through the Webmaster Tools on google, to speed things up. And you can link to your sitemap in your ropots.txt file, to make sure that the search engines will find it.

Note. You can read more about the robots.txt file in the robots.txt Article. And more about Sitemaps in the article on Sitemaps (Comming soon).
Your site should obviously be easy to navigate on, both for search engines, as well as your users. The links you can optimize exactly to your liking, is the Navigation links and Breadcrumb links.
The navigation links will pass Page Value to subpages of your site, while the anchor text helps to increase the relevancy of your individual pages.
Breadcrumb links are relevant links, placed in the content of your site. And this is where it starts to get fun. Some sites are very easy to optimize, and almost rank instantly on relevant keywords, with little to no effort. While a few high competition sites, will need carefully planning of their content, including the optional Breadcrumb links.
There are two well used ways to place Breadcrumb links in the content. The first wraps relevant keywords in anchor tags, and link them to relevant pages. The second places the links in a list, somewhere last in the content.
We know that search engines analyzes the text of links, but this also goes for the internal links on our site, to our advantage. So a link from page A to page B, with the anchor text SEO, would increase page Bs relevancy for the SEO keyword.
it is however assumed that incoming links are of higher value then the internal links between your own pages. My suggestion is therefor to use a bit from both drawers, as they may help each other to grow your page relevancy.
The best ways to get more backlinks AKA Inbound links, includes the following.
